This was to be low-key, with nice weather predicted all weekend. However, most of Friday evening and Saturday had pretty high southerly winds kicking-up our planned path to the Miles River. The process almost old-hat to our crew, we quickly stowed all provisions after our arrival Friday evening, which was even earlier than expected thanks to significantly less traffic than the previous Memorial Day weekend.
Saturday started the way all days should, waking up on the Rose followed by coffee and donuts at the marina, before unceremoniously heading out for southern destinations. We left the marina without taking on fuel then headed to the Miles River at trawler-speed, as no timeline allowed better fuel consumption numbers. The weekend’s weather finally turned out like predictions, allowing the Rose to enjoy her quick trip back home Sunday around noon. Our peaceful anchorage became crowded by our departure anyways, allowing us to enjoy spectacular water headed north through Eastern Bay, 01JUN14

Arriving back at the marina, we decided to give Christina a fresh drink after a couple weekends of activities. Not too bad, considering how much time she spent hauling the First Mate in the tube Memorial weekend!
A look at this weekend’s journey south… May-June 2014
Christina’s crew took their time to pack and clean up, as wonderful weather invited all to stay as long as possible. Unfortunately, duty called, ending an otherwise perfect day aboard the Rose. This weekend put 35.1nm under keel, averaging only 8kt the entire time underway (most of it was at 6kt)! Combined with the previous weekend, 90.9-gallons of fuel and 80.1nm underway work out to 0.88nm/gal, which is better than typical thanks to running 17nm at 6kt (roughly 1.5nm/gal).
